The University of Virginia School of Education and Human Development (EHD) (~~~/) seeks an educator at the rank of assistant professor (non-tenure eligible) who will teach courses, provide clinical supervision and engage in professional service to support the Department of Human Services Educational Specialist in School Psychology (Ed.S.) (~~~) program. The program prepares graduates to deliver comprehensive, culturally responsive school psychological services (i.e., prevention, intervention, assessment, and consultative services) to diverse student populations in educational settings. Specifically, graduates will engage in data-based decision-making to design and implement evidence-based interventions to promote academic, behavioral, and mental health success.
The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of effective college teaching experience in courses related to school psychology and school mental health. We expect that the successful candidate will be an excellent instructor and student advisor to work collaboratively with the director of Clinical and School Psychology Programs and EHD faculty to provide exceptional educational experiences for students. This is a 9-month, salaried, non-tenure eligible faculty position with the possibility of renewal.
The candidate is expected to serve as the degree coordinator for the Ed.S. in School Psychology program (3-year renewable appointment). In this capacity, the candidate will work collaboratively with faculty colleagues, both within and outside EHD, to support the continued development of the Ed.S. program. As the degree coordinator, this individual will support the program in obtaining and maintaining accreditation; teach core/required courses and provide school supervision in the Ed.S. program; serve as a faculty advisor for students enrolled in the Ed.S. program; contribute to institutional service activities at the program, department, school, and/or university level as assigned and to professional service activities; and will attend Ed.S. Program, Human Services Department, and School of Education & Human Development faculty meetings. Load is set annually between the department chair and faculty member consistent with the School's Load Planning policy.
Required Qualifications:
PhD in School Psychology
Eligible for state school psychology certification in Virginia and/or Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP)
Prior college teaching experience related to school or clinical psychology
Preferred Qualifications:
3 years of experience as a school psychologist in a school system
Experience providing school mental health services
Experience providing supervision related to school or clinical psychology
Experience building relationships with practicing school psychologists who provide clinical-school supervision to student trainees
License eligible clinical psychologist in Virginia
Experience promoting diversity and equity and/or advancing understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups
Evidence of ability to implement a variety of pedagogical techniques appropriate for academically diverse learners
Involvement in local, state, or national professional school psychology organizations
Experience with school psychology accreditation and licensure requirements
Proven record of collaboration with diverse groups of students and faculty
