    Position Summary

    Applications are invited for a full-time 9-month tenure track position in the field of Genetics for the Department of Biology to begin August 2025.

    We seek to hire a candidate who investigates the genetic mechanisms underlying long-term evolutionary responses of organisms to their environment. The ideal candidate will study evolutionary, ecological, and/or community processes using genomic approaches. Research expertise might encompass any level of biological hierarchy, ecological scale, or organismal group even to include research in genetic based diseases.

    The department values faculty who excel in teaching and research and are committed to being part of a dynamic team.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities
    • Teach upper division undergraduate and graduate courses in genetics, evolution, biological methods, and/or other areas of expertise and lower division courses in biology.
    • A typical teaching load is two lectures and two to three labs per semester.
    • Advise biology majors, aid in curriculum development, and provide service to the Department, College, and University.
    • Modest research space and equipment will be made available based on synergy with existing faculty research programs.
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • A record of scholarly achievement and demonstrate the ability to develop an extramurally funded research program appropriate for a regional university.
    • The successful candidate will be expected to engage in sustained and substantive research that includes direction of undergraduate and graduate students.
    Physical Requirements

    Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

    Required Minimum Qualifications
    • Ph.D. in Biology, Genetics, Evolution, Ecology or another related field
    • ABD will be considered if all requirements are completed by date of hire, August 1, 2025.
    • Postdoctoral experience is preferred, although not required.
    • Experience in mentoring students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access of underserved populations to graduate and professional programs in biology is preferred.
    • A background search will be required of the successful applicant.
