    Description of Work Unit

    The Department of Psychology is in CSU's College of Natural Sciences along with seven other departments: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics. The Psychology Department serves approximately 1000 undergraduate majors and 100 graduate students, with approximately 30 full-time faculty members distributed across five doctoral programs: (1) Applied Social and Health Psychology, (2) Cognitive Neuroscience, (3) Cognitive Psychology, (4) Counseling Psychology, and (5) Industrial/Organizational Psychology. The Department also houses the Tri-Ethnic Center for Prevention Research, a University-designated program of research and scholarly excellence that concentrates on social problems that affect rural areas; and the Colorado Injury Control Research Center which is dedicated to reducing the occurrence and severity of injuries in rural areas of the Rocky Mountain region, particularly among underserved populations.

    The Department is primarily housed in the Behavioral Sciences Building, a building that was completed in 2010 and was designed to meet LEED Gold Certification standards for environmental quality, innovative design, sustainability, and efficiency. The Behavioral Sciences Building includes office space for all full-time faculty and graduate students, meeting and seminar rooms, state-of-the-art classrooms, numerous lounge and study areas, and a café. The entire campus is wi-fi enabled, including all areas surrounding the buildings. Also included are faculty research laboratories in cognitive psychology, neuroscience, and sensation and perception that have been designed to specification. An adjacent building includes additional research space, computer facilities, an imaging center housing EEG, TMS and NIRS imaging labs, and undergraduate instructional laboratories. Faculty and students also have access to a 3T Siemens Skyra MRI system located at the Translational Medicine Institute. In total, the Department controls over 100,000 square feet of research, teaching, and office space. More information on the Department can be obtained on the Department's website:

    Research and Laboratory Resources

    The department houses the Center for Applied Cognitive Neuroscience, which includes approximately 1000 square feet of laboratory space housing research and teaching equipment for a wide range of human neuroscience modalities, including several high-density EEG systems, tDCS, TMS, eye tracking, and NIRS imaging. In addition, the Translational Medicine Institute at CSU houses a multi-use 3T MRI facility.

    Position Summary

    The Department of Psychology at Colorado State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Department of Psychology. This position is at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in August 2025. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate excellence in both teaching and research. We welcome candidates with a wide range of research expertise in human neuroscience research. Candidates should be able to teach undergraduate and graduate level coursework in biological psychology, cognitive neuroscience, and specialty courses related to their area of research interest. Although the area of specific research interest within neuroscience is open, successful candidates will be expected to be able to teach core curricular classes within the Department of Psychology, including Cognitive Neuroscience and/or Biological Psychology, and supervise laboratory courses in these areas. If the candidate is a licensed psychologist, opportunities exist as Aging Clinic of the Rockies for clinical supervision.

    Required Job Qualifications
    • The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a related field, or anticipate completing their Ph.D. in one of these fields by 08/1/2025.
    • The candidates must be appropriate for the Assistant Professor rank.
    • The candidates must also have an active research program in Human Neuroscience and Psychology.
    Preferred Job Qualifications

    Preferred candidates will demonstrate:

    • Evidence of an active, high quality research program with the clear potential for establishing an independent laboratory
    • Demonstrates a clear and consistent record of publication using neuroscience tools
    • Experience in undergraduate instruction and mentoring in neuroscience-related topics (e.g., cognitive neuroscience)
    • Experience in graduate instruction and mentoring in neuroscience-related topics (e.g., cognitive neuroscience)
    • Evidence of the capability to obtain external research funding
    • Evidence of interdisciplinary research
    • Ability to advance the University's commitment to diversity, social justice and inclusion
    • Post-doctoral research experience is preferred.
