    Position Summary

    The Department of Communication at Austin Peay State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor for Academic year 2025-2026. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Communication or a related field. Applicants with ABD status may be considered, but must have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment. The position begins August 2025.

    The position is in the Professional Communication major. It requires experience in Public Relations and/or Corporate Communication. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in a 4/4 annual teaching load, develop and maintain an active scholarly agenda, conduct academic advising, and participate in service to the department, university, and community. In addition, membership and participation in state, regional, national, or international communication organizations is required.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities
    • Maintain a 4/4 teaching load, teaching courses as assigned at the times and in the locations necessary to meet the needs of Austin Peay's students
    • Utilize effective teaching methods, diverse teaching techniques and teaching modalities, and multiple evaluation and assessment procedures as a means to help meet the needs of Austin Peay's students
    • Demonstrate the ability to teach, develop, and implement courses related to one's curricular area
    • Develop and maintain an active research agenda
    • Keep up-to-date with one's field and curricular areas by reading and reviewing current scholarly or creative works and by attending conferences, seminars, workshops, courses, and faculty development activities
    • Advise students, fulfill departmental, college, and university committee assignments
    • Demonstrate the willingness and ability to work effectively with colleagues to support the mission of Austin Peay State University, its academic units, and its campus community
    • Demonstrate respect for and support Austin Peay State University's diverse campus community and student population

    Physical Requirements

    Required Minimum Qualifications
    • Earned Ph.D. in Communication or related field from an accredited institution at time of appointment; ABD applicants may be considered, but must have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment.
    • A minimum of two (2) years experience teaching at the college or university level;
    • A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas: corporate communication, marketing communication, and/or public relations;
    • Evidence of potential ability in academic assignment and/or professional contributions and activities;
    • Evidence of good character, mature attitude, and professional integrity;
    • A background search will be required of the successful applicant.
    Preferred
    • A minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching online courses.
    • A minimum of two (2) years experience working with learning management systems.
