The School of Education and Human Development at the University of Virginia seeks an innovative scholar for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Education, in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education (~~~) in PreK-12 Educational Technology. This is a 9-month, salaried, tenure-eligible faculty position.
The successful candidate will have a clear demonstrated record of research that develops and/or uses technology to improve teaching and learning in educational settings. This may include one or more aspects of artificial intelligence such as computer vision, natural language processing, machine learning, and/or deep learning. In addition, such research may include, for example, the use of AI-based tools to augment instruction or professional learning, or the development of systems to integrate computer science into elementary or secondary school settings. This list is not exhaustive, but it is designed to illustrate how candidates may use innovative, technology-enhanced approaches to understand and improve educational experiences. The successful candidate is expected to have a track record (commensurate with experience) of conducting rigorous research and demonstrating scholarly productivity, including sponsored research support. Preference will be given to candidates who have a defined research agenda that focuses on using PreK-12 educational technology to provide more equitable learning opportunities in PreK-12 classroom settings.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in PreK-12 educational technology both online and in person, advise graduate students, and mentor doctoral dissertations. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues, both within and outside the School of Education and Human Development, as well as with community partners.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
A PhD in PreK-12 educational technology, instructional technology, learning sciences, or a related field prior to the start date of the position
A demonstrated record of scholarship that reflects outstanding research in the field of educational technology
Potential for excellent track record of sponsored research support
Record of successful advising and mentoring of graduate students
Record of effective teaching at the university level
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
Experience working with culturally and/or linguistically diverse students
Experience with developing collaborations among community partners, researchers, and schools
Evidence of a defined research agenda that focuses on using PreK-12 educational technology to provide more equitable learning opportunities in PreK-12 classroom settings
Experience working in teacher education and/or PreK-12 classroom contexts
Experience with online teaching
