  • We are seeking an Assistant Dean, Marketing & Communications (MarCom) who will be an executive staff member reporting to the Dean at the Johns Hopkins University School of Education (SOE). This individual will be a member of the Dean's senior leadership team.

    The Assistant Dean helps create and manage the major internal and external integrated communications and marketing strategies that proactively:

    • Position SOE and its brand within a variety of audiences and through multiple media.

    • Communicate the achievements of the outstanding SOE faculty, students, and staff.

    • Market and promote its academic and professional programs, products, events, and activities.

    Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    • Develop and provide oversight of short and long-range communications and marketing strategies that support and help carry out the school's strategic plan.

    • Work with the Dean's office to give voice to strategic messages and priority communications and serve as an advisor and consultant to SOE leadership on matters and mechanisms concerning effective internal and external integrated and strategic marketing communications.

    • Ensure appropriate use and integrity of the Johns Hopkins University School of Education names and brands in both internal and external applications.

    • Direct the work of the SOE marketing and communications internal and external outreach, including,

    • Manage the MarCom office, supervise staff (5)

    • Oversee general office administration and manage budgets.

    • Serve as Managing Editor SOE websites, social media, and other print and digital media.

    • Establish organizational marketing and communications standards that describe print and digital editorial policies and guidelines, advertising policies and rates, graphics standards and templates, and policies and procedures for displays and exhibits.

    • Lead the SOE news, information, and media services that promote major faculty, student, and staff accomplishments and research findings to internal and external media outlets reaching targeted public audiences.

    • Oversee the design and production of materials and graphic arts that carry the SOE brand and messages.

    • Develop strategies and techniques that ensure external outreach and positioning of SOE with prospective students, faculty, staff, and leadership worldwide.

    • Design, develop, and continue to enhance a contemporary communications and marketing infrastructure that will support future growth and developing directions for SOE.

    • Serve as the liaison to the MarCom offices at JHU and other JHU divisions, and work to identify opportunities for internal and external collaboration.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Master's degree in communications, marketing or related field

    • Eight years managerial level, progressively responsible and diverse experience leading full-service marketing communications programs and implementing marketing communications strategies

    Special Skills & Knowledge

    • Exceptional, demonstrated, and peer-recognized skills in all marketing communications disciplines, including use of all contemporary multi- and "new" media communications approaches and strategies

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in various marketing and communications settings including some but not all academic or health care environments

    Certifications

    • AMA PCM (American Marketing Association), APR (Public Relations Society of America), ABC (International Association of Business Communicators)
