The Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences Program in the Department of PA Studies of the Congdon School of Health Sciences, High Point University, is seeking applications for a 12-month faculty position (non-tenure track) at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. We seek a candidate with expertise in biomedical sciences such as Cell Biology, Physiology, Pathology, Immunology of Cancer, as well as metabolic, inflammatory, and infectious disease models of human diseases. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Salary and academic rank will be based on education and experience.
Our Biomedical Science Program is an intensive 11-month interdisciplinary curriculum that focuses on teaching biomedical sciences with a student-centered approach. The program covers human anatomy, biochemistry, cell biology, immunology, pathology, clinical diagnostics and simulation, and the development of biomedical laboratory technical skills. Its goal is to enhance scientific literacy and communication skills. The program culminates in a capstone experience based on inquiry and service learning, with options including a Clinical Experience, Research Development, or Internship track.
Below are the primary responsibilities for the successful candidate:
- Developing and contributing to graduate-level courses in:
- Cell biology, immunology, physiology, and pathophysiology: This course will encompass concepts in cell biology, immunology, physiology, and the pathophysiology of human diseases which include cancer, metabolic, chronic inflammatory, and infectious diseases. The course will involve lectures and laboratory work.
- Biomedical Techniques: This lab-based course will focus on teaching standard laboratory techniques and assays used in biomedical research. The aim is to fully train and mentor students in these techniques. Some of the biomedical techniques include real-time PCR, functional cell-based assays (e.g., proliferation, cell death, survival, and energy production), Minimum Inhibitory Concentration assays, immunohistochemistry, Western blots, flow cytometry, microscopy, and cell culture.
- Additional program teaching responsibilities may include a combination of the following courses: Research Design and Writing, Special Topics, Capstone, and mentoring students in Healthcare Practice and Professional Development (Ethics) or Standardized Exam Prep (MCAT, DAT, GRE).
- Excelling in academics, mentoring students in research during the capstone experience, and providing guidance for academic and healthcare professions.
- Establishing a research program that can support successful research projects for master-level students and, optionally, undergraduate students at HPU. The research area and model system are open, with a preference for working with lower animal and cell culture models.
QUALIFICATIONS- Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Cell Biology, Immunology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, or a related field to qualify for this position. They should also have the necessary academic qualifications to teach graduate-level Cell Biology, Immunology, Physiology, and Pathophysiology courses.
- In addition to the doctoral degree, candidates are required to have further training, such as postdoctoral research experience, clinical practice, STEM workforce credentials, or industry knowledge and practice.
- Preference will be given to candidates with academic teaching experience at the graduate level or in upper-level undergraduate courses and at least one year of teaching in an educational setting.
- Applicants with demonstrated experience in mentoring students in research will be highly preferred.
