Essential Functions

The Chemistry Department at the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) invites applications for two tenure-track positions in biochemistry. As part of our strategic plan to expand and enhance STEM education and research in the Department and on campus, we seek candidates who will focus on effective teaching, enhancing learning through diversity and inclusion, and developing a productive research program. We will accept applications for appointment at the assistant or associate professor rank. A Ph.D. in biochemistry or related field at time of application is required. Postdoctoral research experience is preferred.

The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching mission of the Department, establish productive research collaborations, and actively seek external funding to establish a productive research program. Teaching foundational courses in general chemistry and biochemistry is expected. Teaching in-depth courses in an area of expertise is encouraged.

The Chemistry Department currently has 19 faculty members serving over 100 undergraduate majors and supporting approximately 1,000 students per semester from other disciplines in undergraduate courses (~~~). Undergraduate education is the primary mission of the Department, and research involving undergraduate students is supported by the university and expected for tenure-track faculty. Faculty in the Department are committed to both education and research and many are actively engaged in multidisciplinary projects, including programs supported by the National Science Foundation. In addition, the Department has a close collaboration with the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). This involves both courses and research and the candidate would have the opportunity to join that collaboration. Opportunities for joint appointments with other UNO STEM departments or UNMC departments are available and encouraged. The Department offers an ACS-accredited Bachelor's degree as well as Bachelor's programs in Medicinal Chemistry, Chemistry Education, and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Monday- Friday, hours vary.

Additional Duties

Participate in service assignments, undergraduate mentoring, engagement with curriculum and fostering best teaching practices; other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Chemistry or Biochemistry or related field at the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

Postdoctoral research and teaching experience.
