    Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA), Emerald Coast Division has an opportunity for an experienced Air Force Targeting Instructor, located at Eglin AFB in Florida or remotely under certain circumstances, beginning in August 2024.  This position supports CONUS and OCONUS training & development support of the Air Force Targeting and Effects Software (AFTES) and the Integrated Munitions Effects Assessment (IMEA) software programs.  Applicant must be a United States citizen and be able to obtain and maintain an active Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance.  ARA is a 100% employee-owned company that offers excellent benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, retirement and more.

    This position is an integral part of the Air Force Targeting community and requires a minimum of five years of experience with Air-to-Surface Targeting products (e.g., JMEM Weaponeering System (JWS) and/or Digital Imagery Exploitation Engine (DIEE)).  Experience as a trainer (Goodfellow AFB, Joint Targeting School, Precision Fires Course, Combatant Command Qualification Course, weapons school, weapon/aircraft program offices) and/or equivalent experience in an applicable career field (e.g. Targeting, Fires) is preferred. Unit level training positions also qualify.  Bachelor's Degree or higher is desired but may be substituted with operational experience. Applicant must be willing to travel away from home on business up to, but not limited to, ten working days a month. Travel includes both CONUS and OCONUS locations.

    AFTES Instructor Qualifications:

    •  Bachelor's degree or better (desired).

    • A minimum of 5 years of experience related to air-to-surface targeting software, and/or four years of experience related to Air targeting is required.

    • Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance; selected applicant will undergo a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements at the time of employment.

    AFTES Instructor Required Skills:  

    • Considerable knowledge and understanding of air-to-surface and/or surface-to-surface fires engagements.

    • Ability to perform Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Target Development (BTD, ITD & ATD).

    • Understanding of Target Systems Analysis (TSA), Target List Management (TLM), and Combat Assessment (CA).

    • Comfortable presenting technical information to large audiences consisting of a broad base of knowledge and expertise.

    • The ability to tailor information to the appropriate level of understanding.

    • The ability to prepare written reports/briefings indicating solutions or range of possible alternatives in rank of desirability and probability of success when there is no single solution, and interfacing with customers to help define work processes.

    • Ability to successfully complete a Government Instructor Certification Board.

    • Deep understanding related to operational weaponeering, weapon systems effectiveness methodologies, target coordinate mensuration, collateral damage estimation, and database maintenance.

    • Ability to analyze operational weaponeering methodologies and understand the rigorous methods of scientific and mathematical inputs.

    Additional Consideration for:

    • Recent experience as a military training instructor at a service targeting school or other related military course, and completion of a Joint Targeting School (JTS) accredited CDE course.

    • Experience in Air Operations Centers (AOCs) is desired.
