    Welder AB - 2nd Shift

    Union Facility - Ashland PA

    Rate: $23.46 - $24.84 per hour plus $0.60 shift differential

    Offering $1000 Sign on Bonus

    MUST BE ABLE TO PASS 3 WELD TESTS AT WTTI ALLENTOWN

    Arc and acetylene weld, braze and cut a widely diversified range of maintenance repairs. Determine current and voltage settings, electrode type and size for arc welding, select tips and vary flame in acetylene welding. Weld various types of production equipment in making repairs, weld pipe, fabricate steel and boiler plate parts and sections for production use; fuse various grades of hard facing materials to production parts; braze castings, tools, machine, and equipment parts with various metals according to conditions required. Harden, temper and anneal high speed, alloy steels and cast iron; for use in tools or production, maintenance and repair parts. Plan and layout details and development of sheet metal and boiler plate work in the fabrication of new construction and maintenance, including tanks, machine guards, ventilation ducts, metal jigs, fixtures, etc. Cut or sheer, band, roll and form variously shaped parts, using variety of sheet metal working and gas welding equipment. Perform other duties as assigned.

    Requirements:

    COMPLEXITY AND JUDGMENT

    May specialize in more skilled practices or any work outlined. May decide on relative effectiveness of arc and acetylene welding for some jobs. Exercise considerable judgment in the heat treating of various metals for specific use. Planning and layout of sheet metal work for irregularly shaped parts requires making decisions on methods to be used to obtain desired shapes.

    Depending on experience, perform routine work applying principles of welding, elementary heat treating and sheet metal working in performance of maintenance, repair, and production work.

    EDUCATION

    Understand basic to complicated drawings and specifications, shop arithmetic, and use of scales, protractors, squares, precision measuring instruments. Knowledge of arc and gas welding principles and methods, fusion of various metals and alloys, elementary heat treating and shop metallurgy. Training generally equivalent to partial high school plus about 2-3 years of apprenticeship or trade training.

    EXPERIENCE

    Depending on level, two to four years in welding.

    INITIATIVE

    Considerable initiative and responsibility for planning details of procedure, including heat, pressure, strength of welds, degrees of hardness and wear resistance qualities in heat treating various metals and in a wide application of principles of sheet metal working. Unusual problems should be referred to supervisor.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Moderately heavy work in making repairs. Distribution of all work over various jobs; however, generally involves only moderate effort. Works in standing position; at times requires frequent lifting and handling of medium castings. Chain hoists available for lifting heavy work. Some heavy lifting, push/pulling on occasion. Some work must be performed in an awkward position.

    Employees working in this position are required to frequently walk or hear. The employee is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop kneel, crouch or crawl.

    The employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Some conditions are extremely noisy with exposure to dust, flying chips, heat and some fumes. Some exposure to outside weather conditions. Required to wear a welding mask.

    Working in the foundry environment subject to temperatures of heat and cold depending on the season. Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, steel toe shoes, hearing protection, eye protection, and necessary protective mask or hood.
