    Adult Education and Literacy instructor for night classes in Ste Genevieve, EMAA Park Hills, Farmington Treatment Center

    Ste. Genevieve - Monday and Wednesday evenings

    EMAA Park Hills - Tuesdays with occassional 2 days a week.

    Farmington Treatment Center - Classes are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 6 pm - 9 pm. This will average 2 days a week.

    Job Summary:

    Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) instructors teach 5 subject areas which include: Language/Writing, Math, Reading, Science, and Social Studies. These subject areas are taught from the level that the student assessment recommends up to a college level. AEL teachers prepare students to pass the HiSET/GED test to gain their High School Equivalency. AEL teachers also assist students with workplace readiness skills to prepare them for re-entry into the workforce.

    Must be a team player and enjoy working as a team.

    Various teaching styles are used to meet the needs of all learners, to encourage student engagement, and to meet performance measures. Instructors are required to provide individualized and group lessons and will be expected to write and/or implement lesson plans. Student enrollment, attendance, progress, learning plans, and meeting employment and/or post-secondary goals are key factors to the AEL program. Teachers are required to maintain these records and complete paperwork required by the district and DESE AEL.

    Teachers are required to complete 20 professional development hours per year and attend the Pre-certification (PCW) workshop and the Beginning Teacher Assistance Program (BTAP) for AEL teachers within 60 days of hire to gain AEL certification. Teachers are provided a mentor for 2 years. A minimum of 100 instructional hours per year is required to keep AEL certification.

    Qualifications:

    Bachelors degree and willing to obtain Adult Education Certification provided by NCSD AEL.

    All teachers report to the Adult Education & Literacy Director at Unitec Career Center.
