  • Aston Carter's large public client in Calgary is looking for an Accounting Manager to join their team on a 6-month contract-to-hire basis, with the intent to go permanent! This position is a great opportunity to help build out a successful accounting team. Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Manager is an integral position to the accounting team. The position encompasses a multitude of accounting activities under tight deadlines, including the preparation of accurate and timely financial and operational accounting deliverables, data analysis, account reconciliations, and year-end and quarterly audit/review preparation. The person in this role demonstrates a proactive approach and initiative when handling reporting and analytical activities to ensure that all tasks are handled efficiently, professionally, and in a timely manner.

    This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for a self-motivated, ambitious, and enthusiastic individual with demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills. This person must be highly organized, with excellent time management and planning skills, and strong attention to detail.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Overseeing daily operations within accounting team

    • Building and implementing processes and procedures for accounting

    • Help aid in transition to SOX reporting

    • Prepare annual financial statements and coordinate communication & information internally, and act as the primary audit contact with external auditors

    • Prepare quarterly reports for detailed qualitative and quantitative data analysis for presentation to Senior Management and distribution to partners

    • Prepare quarterly internal financial statements and perform reconciliations as well as balance sheet reviews

    • Assist with the maintenance of the company's financial close

    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departments

    • Proactively identify and assist in the implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the financial reporting group

    • Lead, coach and mentor the accounting team

    • Assist with ad hoc requests as required

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    Must Haves

    • 5-10 years of experience in accounting (full cycle AR, AP, financial reporting)

    • 1+ years of previous management experience

    • Inventory knowledge

    • CPA designated

    • Large ERP experience

    • Intermediate Excel

    Nice to Have

    • SOX experience

    • ProClass or Profit21 Software

    • Distribution or Retail experience

    Experience Level
