    Description of Work Unit

Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation's leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a vibrant community of approximately 157,000 residents that offers the convenience of a small town with all the amenities of a large city. Fort Collins is situated on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains with views of 14,000 foot peaks, and offers access to numerous cultural, recreational, and outdoor opportunities.

The School of Education ( SOE ) exists within the College of Health and Human Sciences at Colorado State University. SOE's commitment and contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the fields of higher education leadership and student affairs are demonstrated through collaborative research, teaching, and community engagement. SOE faculty is comprised of educator-scholars whose expertise spans diverse learning context and populations. Innovative instruction, diversity/equity/inclusion, technology-enhanced learning, distance education, service learning, professional development school partnerships, and rigorous research are embodied in all SOE programs. Our faculty members' philosophies and areas of expertise, along with the School's core values, guide our pedagogical and inquiry practices, which are both interdisciplinary and applied.

The School of Education is home to multiple degree programs and specializations. The Educator Preparation Program exists within the School of Education ( SOE ) and is built on partnerships with local school districts using a Professional Development School ( PDS ) Model allowing future teachers to gain valuable classroom experience in partnership schools earlier than traditional teacher licensure models. In Colorado, bachelor degrees are not awarded in general education, so in order to obtain a teaching license, teacher candidates earn a bachelor's degree in a content area. The Educator Preparation Program at Colorado State University offers these teaching endorsement areas for students:

    • PreK - Grade 3: Early Childhood Education

    • Kindergarten - Grade 12: Art, Foreign Languages, Instructional Technology; and Music Education

    • Secondary - Grades 7-12: Agricultural, Business, English, Family and Consumer Sciences, Marketing, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Speech, and Technology Education
