What We Can Learn from the New Trend of E-bikes

Posted by in Career Advice

A new trend is starting to take hold in the “land down under.” Matthew Moore, Urban Affairs Editor of the Sydney Morning Herald in Sydney Australia, reports that E-bikes (electrically assisted bicycles), are rapidly growing in popularity. As he writes in his most recent article, “CHINA has four times more electric bikes on the road than cars. In Holland, every fourth bike sold is battery-powered. Now there are signs Sydneysiders are warming to this new breed of bikes that miraculously seem to lend you Lance Armstrong's legs.” This kind of information is good to know about as you make your career transition. He goes on to say that “Across inner Sydney, shops selling electric bikes are cropping up. Many are offering the chance to borrow or rent their machines to convince cyclists who was unsure about the benefit of having a battery on their bike.” Once again, trends in other parts of the world will most likely play a role in influencing people here in the United States. This sounds similar to the much debated, “100th Monkey theory". This theory states that a group of minds located in one geographic location can influence other minds located in a distant location without any physical, visual or verbal contact. Whether you believe in this theory or not, with the modern day miracle of the internet, trends that start on one side of the globe have a tendency to influence the rest of the planet, sooner or later.

There are certain principles you can learn from this trend of E-bikes, that you can apply to your job search. As new job search approaches develop, it would be important for you to keep abreast of them. Techniques and strategies that may have been effective over the past few years are being replaced by newer, more effective ones. The problem for many job seekers is they get on track for awhile and then ease up when nothing happens. Using old and outdated methods, some even become despondent and quit trying. They are wishing and hoping for a job offer, but they wish and hope in vain.

Simply sending out your resume electronically to hundreds of potential employers is no longer an effective way to find and secure employment. Richard Bolles’ book, videos and podcasts are worth reading, watching and listening to, as you create and implement you job finding strategy.

There are hundreds of other excellent books, cds, mp3s and websites like this one that can help you in your journey to a new career. They reveal fresh and new ways to find the job of your dreams. The key, is to keep up to date and informed on a regular basis. So, learn from the trend of how E-bikes are influencing other parts of the world, and be on the lookout for trying new ideas that will help you secure the job of your dreams.
