Unemployment Funnies to Lighten the Mood

Posted by in Career Advice

In my long journey of scanning the internet looking for tidbits of tips and excitement to pass your way on this blog, I ran across some funny “tips” offered by various sources that make light of the unemployment situation. Hopefully they can give you a chuckle too.

Here are some tips for still entertaining while unemployed, because, let’s face it, if you led a party life before, you can’t let something like unemployment get you down. The main difference between having a party while employed versus being unemployed, is all about the money, so try these cost cutting ideas:

Potluck: Host a potluck dinner and tell your friends to make the most impressive meal they can. Once they arrive, eat as much as you can, because it is probably the best food you’ve had in a while.

Spike the Punch: Have a big bowl of punch, but be sure to constantly mention how it is non-alcoholic. Sooner or later, one of you alcoholic friends will spike it and make it a real party while saving you the booze money.

Get a Keg: Borrow a friend’s empty keg for your party, and then constantly apologize to your guests for buying a bum keg. Express your deep disappointment over and over and hopefully it will inspire someone to offer to make a beer run.

No Power: Don’t pay your electric bill, and this will ensure your party has a more intimate setting for your guests. Once things get going and the hook-ups begin – the party is a success.

Games: Play pin the tail on the unemployment check, and let everyone know the party has been sponsored by the government and they accept donations made out to your name.

When it comes to entertaining on a tight budget, use your imagination and you can make it happen. While these examples are a bit silly, there are viable ways you can pull it together and still have a social life while unemployed. If you have specific tips you have used, please share below for all to see.
