Lookingfor a job during the holidays can be tough. On one hand, many companies hire additional help during the heavy shopping season, while others hold off on hiring until after the new year. Still, this isn't the time to put your job search on hold. Instead, harness the emotions of gratitude and joy to further your job chances.
Here are 3 reasons why showing gratitude can help your job search:
Networking – When you meet other professionals, be sure to show your appreciation for any help they give you. If someone invites you to have coffee with some of their colleagues, be sure to return the favor. If you are lucky enough to have someone offer to give you a recommendation or take a look at your resume, be sure to follow up and send them a thank you note as well. Small acts of appreciation make it much more likely that they will go above and beyond for you. The simple process of saying thank you will show that you are a consummate professional.
Enthusiasm – By focusing on the things that are most important and counting your blessings, you can keep depression at bay and increase your enthusiasm for life and your job search. When times are tough, being grateful for even the smallest things will keep your spirits up.
Passion – Trying to find your passion is a challenge, but when you focus on the little things, what matters most becomes clear. It's easy to allow your mind to become cluttered with so many details of life that you lose sight of the things that are important. Keeping a gratitude journal or simply taking time out of your day to say thank you will help you plug back into your passion for life.
