Swap 'Til You Drop

In a retail environment self image can make or break a sales person. Feeling frumpy, grumpy and uncomfortable in one’s attire can be crushing to an otherwise unbeatable approach. But with the economic belt tightening these days it can seem frivolous to invest in a new wardrobe. So don’t, have a party instead. Swap parties are a great way to connect with friends, clear out clutter, and refresh a repetitive clothing routine, reviving a soured self image and encouraging a can do attitude.

Step One: Clean out your closet – If it’s damaged or stained throw it away. If you don’t think any of your friends would want it or you would too be embarrassed to admit you even owned it in the first place then donate it. Be honest with what you will wear again after all you need to make room for all of the new clothes and accessories you will score at your swap party.

Step Two: Call some friends and friends of friends – Try to find people with complimentary styles and sizes. You don’t want everyone there to look and dress the same or you’ll be selecting through several versions of the same clothes you already have. By having friends invite friends you’ll broaden the circle and there will be less chance someone will connect your new look with whoever wore it last.

Step Three: Swap ‘til you drop – Have a blast mixing, matching and trying on clothes. Play a game where you have to dress your partner and see if a new look works for you. Find your favorite outfit and put on a runway show. If you want to go all out hire a seamstress to suggest and make alterations, or a makeup artist to offer beauty tips on how to complete the styling.

When you’re thru donate any unclaimed clothing to your local mission and feel better about helping the community, your friends and yourself. Make it a seasonal event that you can all look forward too. It will boost your self esteem and your attitude which always comes through when dealing with customers.
