They have boundless energy. In these tough times, full time staff are being taxed to the limit with multiple jobs and long hours, which can result in career burnout. Interns have a limited internship--6 months, a year--to get things done and prove themselves, so they'll work harder, longer. They'll go all out to impress you. They know a recommendation from you can be important to their upward mobility.
They learn fast. Interns fresh out of learning institutions have generally honed the art of absorbing lots of information quickly. They're also good at multi-tasking.
