If you love exploring the sea and know your way around an aqua-lung, you might want to think about becoming a Navy Diver. It's an elite corps of service that will take you to the four corners of the world’s oceans.
You'll learn to perform a number of highly skilled tasks few are capable of. For example, you may be involved in diving salvage operations and special diving duties. You'll take part in construction and demolition projects, search and rescue missions, support military and civilian law enforcement agencies, and serve as technical experts for numerous military Special Ops units. You may also be asked to provide security, communications and other logistics during Expeditionary Warfare missions. Or perform routine ship maintenance, including restoration and repair. In other words, this is way beyond Jacques Cousteau stuff.
You'll live and breathe the Navy Divers motto: “We Dive the World Over.” As part of this dedicated Special Ops force, you'll travel the world and be specially trained to perform in virtually every possible undersea environment--from clear, tropical shallow waters to deep, frigid, dark arctic undersea caverns.
Navy Diver training is open to men and women 30 and under. The training will test your will power, your physical and mental strength, and your desire and intelligence. After basic training, you'll undergo the Diver Preparation Course (32 training days, including 20 days of Basic Electrical and Engineering courses). After that, it's 70 days at Second Class Dive School, where you'll learn underwater mechanics, dive medicine, physics and planning, salvage operations, and more. Finish that and you'll be assigned to one of the Navy Diving Units to refine your undersea diving and salvage skills. Do you have what it takes?
