How Did They Do That? Donald Trump Edition

Posted by in Career Advice

Donald Trump is a real estate mogul of epic proportions, owning some of the most well known properties globally. On top of that he is half owner of the Miss America Pageant, owns a mortgage marketing company, has a clothing line, golf courses, restaurants, direct sells vitamins, has a successful television show and has thrown his hat into the ring for political ventures (Trump for President 2012?) and the list can go on and on. So how did he do it?

After some problems in elementary school, Donald was sent to New York Military Academy where he played varsity football, soccer and baseball. After graduation Trump flirted with the idea of attending film school before deciding instead to attend Fordham University. Only two years at Fordham Trump, he made a change over to The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where in 1968 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics with a concentration in finance.

With his education behind him Trump joined his father's already prestigious real estate company The Trump Organization (That's right, he followed in his fathers footsteps!). Very early on in his career Trump was clearing millions of dollars in profits with revitalization projects and development deals. Upon moving to the Manhattan district of New York he was also starting to have major dealings with the City Of New York, offering to take over fledgling projects at cost.

Though some would argue that Donald Trump was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, there is no doubt that his determination and out of the box thinking were major factors in his rise to success. Fast forward to 1989 though and that silver spoon began to tarnish. The recession left Trump unable to meet loan payments and at the brink of losing it all. Professional bankruptcy and close to 900 million dollars in personal debt forced Trump to restructure his debt load and give up control and stake holder shares on many of his investments.

Despite the financial set backs that have plagued Trumps career, Trump is currently flying high with an estimated net worth of near 2 billion dollars and a personal salary near 50 million dollars a year. With dozens of his own properties, golf courses and now his strong presence in the entertainment industry, at 64 years old Donald Trump isn't going anywhere any time soon.

Neither is the Trump dynasty. Trumps oldest children Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka and Eric all hold the title of Executive Vice President within the Trump Organization. The Organization based out of the Trump Tower in New York owns, operates and develops projects ranging from golf courses to high end residential buildings.

Five children, three marriages and enough ventures to make a normal persons head spin have kept Donald Trump a busy busy man and will continue to do so well into the future. If the past is any indication there is nothing that can hold this man back!
