The brand new Google Apps Certification program, how to get in on the ground floor of App Development.
Google just announced that they have launched a Google Apps Certification Program. For those working in the IT Field, having a mobile application deployment certification will make you much more desirable to both current and new employers.
The Google Apps Certification Program is designed to offer badges for different areas of expertise including, Apps deployment, sales, software development and even technical support.
According to Google, the Program is “recommended that a candidate have a minimum of 3-6 years of professional IT experience, and complete at least 3 Google Apps for Business deployments. The deployments should require some technical complexity and significant data integration and migration work. You should be experienced with the use of Google Apps Directory Sync and server side migration tools, such as Google Apps Migration for Microsoft Exchange®.”
In order to get the certification, you have to purchase a special webcam that costs $45 and pay $100 for each person who sits for the test. The program provides study guides and two online courses, Apps 101 and Apps 200. After completing the course, you can take the exam from your computer, while being monitored via webcam by a Google representative. As soon as the test is finished, the results are scored. After passing the test, you will receive a diploma via email and an official badge graphic.
If you fail, you will be given information on which areas need improvement.
IT professionals who pass the test become certified in deployment of all of the Google Apps versions, including Apps for Business, Apps for Education, Apps for Government as well as the standard Apps.
To keep the certification, deployment specialists will be required to attend a certain number of Google Apps Webinars and the certification has to be renewed every year.
The certification program was designed as a way for Google to help their channel partners train their staff in App development. That being said, it is also great for Apps customer organization who want to train their IT staff to deal with their Apps deployment and implementation.
