As a prospective employee, you must take the necessary steps to ensure a job offer is coming your way. From crafting a detailed resume and cover letter to outperforming the rest of the applicants during the job interview, how you conduct yourself during the job search matters. Secure the position of your dreams by taking these five steps.

1. Research the Company

After sending in a resume and cover letter, prepare for a job interview and job offer by thoroughly researching the firm. Scour the company website to find out more about the products and services provided. Research the company’s culture and mission statement. You can also connect with current employees on social media platforms and LinkedIn to better prepare yourself for questions concerning the company's operations.

2. Practice Interview Questions

Be prepared for a job interview and put yourself in a position to receive a job offer by rehearsing common interview questions well before the day of your first meeting. Make a list of questions you want to ask the employer that reveals just how much time you've put into researching the organization, and put together a 30-second elevator pitch to answer common questions such as "Tell Me About Yourself."

3. Dress for Success

The interview gives you the opportunity to showcase your professionalism. Dress for success by wearing business attire. Refrain from wearing accessories that may prompt you to fidget and cologne or perfume that causes a distraction. Make eye contact during the job interview and focus on discussing your skills and experience to increase your chances of receiving a job offer.

4. Follow Up After the Interview

Even if you've made a positive impression during the interview, your work is not finished. Immediately send a thank-you message to the hiring manager after your meeting, and follow up within a few days to inquire about the position. Candidates who are eager, yet professional, with follow-up strategies have a better chance of getting job offer because the employer has confirmation that they are interested in the position and willing to get started right away.

5. Be Flexible

Once you receive the call that the employer is interested in hiring you, be flexible during negotiations. While you may have a bottom line for salary, know that you may not be able to secure every benefit you desire. When researching the company, learn about normal salaries in your field and perks that are commonly offered by the firm so you can negotiate an offer that you can live with in the long term.

Your job search is crucial when it comes to securing a job offer. Put in the necessary time and effort to research the company, familiarize yourself with industry trends and present yourself professionally so the first impression you make on the interviewer outshines that of the rest of the candidates.
