Gap Gets A New Logo, Internet Panics

Gap, known for it's down-to-earth, all-American style clothing and accessories, has just changed it's logo. The logo -- a navy blue square with big block white letters -- that has been with the company since 1969, has been switched to this (right).

From the moment the new logo was released the internet has been flooded with a whole lot of negative feedback. But what does Gap have to say about the feedback they're getting?

Thanks for everyone’s input on the new logo! We’ve had the same logo for 20+ years, and this is just one of the things we’re changing. We know this logo created a lot of buzz and we’re thrilled to see passionate debates unfolding! So much so we’re asking you to share your designs. We love our version, but we’d like to see other ideas. Stay tuned for details in the next few days on this crowd sourcing project.
What do you think about Gap's new logo? I, for one, think it was a great decision to give Gap a bit of a modern facelift but agree that the end result was less than impressive. It really does look like their design team dropped the ball on this one.
