Find Employment in These Cities

The unemployment rate in United States continues to drop, and companies keep hiring as the economy recovers from the recession that started in 2007. Finding employment should be a snap in the late spring of 2015, especially in some of these top cities.

Forbes.com recommends Adecco's methodology for determining the top cities for finding employment. Factors taken into consideration include the types of industries within a city, the cost of living and companies that have varied employment opportunities. Adecco's own data, coupled with the employment rate from the Department of Labor, helped determine some of the best metropolitan areas for job seekers.

Austin, Texas, comes in as the best overall city for finding employment. The unemployment rate sits at 3.3 percent, a full two points lower than the national average. Companies hire workers for health care, government, hospitality, technology and professional services. The growing city serves as a state capital with vibrant parks, great restaurants and a laid-back style.

Grand Rapids, Michigan, is the second-best city on the list. The unemployment rate stands at 3.9 percent. Industries such as auto manufacturing, consumer goods, health care, manufacturing and food service all need workers. Finding employment was hard after the recession threatened the auto industry, but the economic rebound means Grand Rapids remains a great place to work. Competition for positions has become fierce, so compensation packages can be very lucrative.

Nashville, Tennessee, ranks third on the list for finding employment due to factors such as low unemployment and diverse job choices. Prospective employees in skilled trades have plenty of opportunities, especially machinists, electronic repair persons and IT experts.

Cities in the Midwest or South make up the majority of the list. However, the Hudson Valley of New York and New York City itself both make the list in terms of opportunities amid industries such as finance, fashion, retail, hospitality and service. Employers in this part of the country also need graphic designers, web designers, marketing experts, manufacturing employees and data analysts.

Other viable cities for job candidates offer great places for employees to live and work due to relatively stable job markets, decent costs of living versus median income ranges and low unemployment. Lincoln, Nebraska, has some of the lowest unemployment in the United States. Employees can work for the University of Nebraska, the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe railroad or one of the large medical centers in the city.

More great cities for workers include Columbus, Ohio, and Fort Worth, Texas. These sprawling urban centers feature plenty of work, great infrastructure and easy ways to get around as you go back and forth to the office.

Several of the best places for finding employment have advantages over others in terms of livability and the ability to raise a family. Candidates should take into consideration several factors before deciding where to relocate in order to secure a great job.
