Achieving more at work puts you in line for the best promotions and boosts your resume, giving your career progression a firm foundation. Unfortunately, it is all too easy to coast through your workdays after the newness of your job wears off. If you feel like your career is stagnating, take a look at these tips for achieving more every day to build your self-confidence and advance your career.

Take Action to Grow Confidence

The biggest reason for achieving less is the fear that you are not capable of achieving more. Push through the fear by taking baby steps toward doing more. Select just one achievement that you would like to accomplish. Then, make a list of the steps that should get you there. Commit to taking two steps a week in that direction. Every time you complete a new achievement, your confidence grows, making it easier to reach for a new goal.

Provide Your Own Incentives

Don't sit back and wait for your boss or company to provide the incentives you need. Instead, create your own incentives. Put money in a savings account every time you take a difficult step, and then use the money for something special after you reach your goal. If you value time off from work, schedule a vacation day whenever you reach an achievement. At the same time, work with your company to help create better incentive programs to motivate employees to achieve more for the benefit of the organization.

Accept Change

If you find yourself procrastinating more than usual, reevaluate your goals. Sometimes, achievement lags because you fail to recognize a change in yourself. Take the time to do a periodic review of your career goals so that you can aim for achieving more in the areas that can lead to the career advancements you want. Keep an eye on the big picture, as well. Recognizing how each achievement moves you closer to your ideal position makes it easier to take action and achieve more.

Incorporate Breaks Into the Achievement Cycle

Burnout is another top cause of lagging achievement. After reaching difficult goals, take a step back and enjoy your accomplishment instead of immediately pursuing another. These breaks re-energize you and help you maintain good work-life balance, which is essential for achieving more on a regular basis for long-term career advancement.

Achieving more puts you on the right track for your own future career happiness while also helping your company grow. A path of regular achievement is sure to catch the eye of your boss and other decision-makers in your organization. Every time your reach for a new achievement, it gets a little bit easier to continue. Start the habit of achieving more to grow your self-esteem and build your career.
