Dating And Job Searching All on One Site

Finding the perfect job involves more than seeking out a company that needs your skill set. The best job search ends with a position at a company that feels like home with benefits that work both ways and go beyond trading tasks for salary. The popular dating website eHarmony hopes to help job seekers and employers make perfect matches with their career website, Elevated Careers.

At Elevated Careers, eHarmony uses quality matching algorithms to help both employers and job seekers make the right matches. EHarmony has had a lot of success matching love seekers, creating hundreds of successful relationships per day. If similar methods work during job searches, fewer people will need to settle for mediocre positions, and companies will benefit from a more stable workforce that needs less training.

For job seekers, signing up at Elevated Careers is similar to signing up at most career websites. Prospective employees first give a little information about themselves and then upload a resume. The next step is what makes Elevated Careers unique. The job seeker fills out a quick survey designed to discover their values, preferred work culture and personality. Companies fill out similar surveys. Matches are made by pairing workers with both the right skill set and experience, along with the values, culture and personality that work best at the particular company.

A separate software checks resumes for key areas to pair workers with specific positions based on work history and skills. Using this more standard matching software alongside the eHarmony matching system provides hiring managers with pools of candidates that are both qualified for the position and likely to stay on for the long term. Workers who fit into a company well and enjoy their jobs are more likely to stay with a company even when things are less than perfect. If the matching program succeeds, companies benefit from a more engaged workforce, which also correlates to higher productivity and increased profits. Job seekers benefit from shorter job searches and positions they love.

Although there are other services offering personality surveys to help employers make better hiring decisions, Elevated Careers takes a unique approach in also assessing the company culture of the employer.

Another strength of the eHarmony-based program is that the assessment surveys are kept short. Elevated Careers hopes to minimize survey time to no more than 20 minutes to keep everyone interested and involved. Honest, truthful answers are important to the success of the process, and the job search is grueling enough without spending hours at your computer filling out survey questions.

On the other hand, some employment specialists worry that personality and culture-based matching services might dilute the diversity of the workforce at companies. Sometimes a variety of personalities is more successful at problem solving and creative product development.

If matching algorithms are shown to be effective in pairing job seekers with employers, it will prove valuable not only for the unemployed but for the large portion of the workforce that is dissatisfied with its current positions. If eHarmony's job matching algorithm is as successful as its dating algorithm, more job searches will end with a "happily ever after."

My problem with EHarmony is that they seem to believe that only people of the same race can have successful relationships. It'll be interesting to see how they can practice with this mentality, while claiming to afford everyone an equal opportunity to connect with their desired job.
