Here are a few more great reasons to apply to work with a small company:
You keep your name - Smaller businesses know who you are as a person, not just an employee number.
Recognition - You are more apt to be recognized for your talents and strengths when there aren't 100 other people doing the same job as you with all fighting to be noticed.
Flexibility - Big business lives and dies by their employee handbook. Everything must be done by strict guidelines set in place by the head office of the company. Of course small businesses have rules and guidelines, but they have more ability to adapt without the pressure of big brother looming.
Shared Success - A small company wants to push forward and when they succeed, that sense of loyalty within the company takes you along to honor your part of the achievement.
Less internal competition - Small business doesn't have a pool of hundreds of employees to pull from, where you can get lost in the crowd.
They understand real life - We get sick, we want to learn new things, emergencies happen, we need vacations. Small business can work with you most of the time to make things happen.
Family Atmosphere – Small business tends to develop a family-like feel after awhile. A small number of staff combined with everyone working towards a common company goal (instead of a department by department goal) creates a camaraderie amongst employees you don't see in big businesses.
So while you're out hunting for that perfect place to punch your time card everyday, don't over look the little guy. You never know what they could turn into one day.
