Army's Employer Partnership Program Now Better Than Ever

Posted by in Career Advice

A new, state-of-the-art Web portal was recently set up to help veterans, Reserve-component members, their families and wounded warriors secure jobs with civilian employers. The portal greatly enhances the Army's Employer Partnership program, which has helped many of its members find jobs in this tough economy.

The user-friendly tools make it easier for job hunters and employers looking to hire military personnel with specific skill sets. The portal streamlines the job application process by letting users set up a personal profile and maintain a record of their job searches and search parameters. There's also a resume builder that helps users write and maintain a resume in the system. Users can even set an alert function to let them know when a particular job announcement is posted.

The new portal also streamlines things for the 1,200 or so employers who currently participate in the partnership program. Position vacancies can now be directly input into the system and applications can be easily tracked. Employers can search resumes already in the system and contact qualified candidates.

The program attracts everything from Fortune 500 companies to "mom-and-pop" businesses. Increasingly, larger employers like General Electric and Wal-Mart are signing up for the program. Employers in general recognize the untapped pool of talent the program provides, as well as the quality, integrity, and ethics of those who have served their country. Employers are coming to realize that veterans bring the maturity, leadership and life experience often not found in young civilian applicants—many of whom still live with their parents. Hiring a veteran, reservist or Guard member means you can expect a certain level of discipline, judgment, and selfless dependability out of a candidate.
