On the 18th of October, the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) announced the winners of their Education Excellence Awards in Scottsdale, AZ. The awards were given to four companies, and one training professional for having industry-leading training and development programs and methods. From AGC’s press release,
Charlotte, NC-based Crowder Construction Company was awarded the grand prize for their comprehensive training facility built at their corporated headquarters. The ‘university’ has provided over 340,000 training hours since it opened in 2000 to employees from all levels of the organization.
Bryan McClure of L.P.R. Construction Company in Loveland, CO was awarded Instructor of the year. Under McClure’s direction, the turnover rate for apprenticeship for members of his class has decreased, and class enrollment has gone up. L.P.R. also received the award for best craft training program, llaunched in 1995.
Other winners include Zachry Construction Corporation, San Antonio, TX (best supervisory training program), and SpawGlass Construction Corporation, Houston, TX (best executive management training program). Winners were chosen by a 12-member panel of industry professionals from 40 nominees.
"These programs are essential to keeping this industry current and thriving,” said Doug Pruitt, the association’s immediate past president. “And while these programs are geared to educate and train, they also help nurture the future leaders of the construction industry.”
