What kind of sales jobs are there? Telemarketing is a type of sales job. It is performed by calling people over the phone. You make a pitch for what you’re selling hoping the person will buy it. Another type of sales job is behind a cash register or a counter. There you ring up their purchase or offer to show them something in the display case to make the sell. Then there’s the sales jobs of going to homeowner’s house or a business where you solicit them in person. Some sales jobs offer commissions only. Commissions are based on what you sell and you would make a percentage of the dollar of the gross sales. Or commission can be based on the amount of units sold not the dollar amount. In some jobs, only after a sales quota is met will commissions be paid. Other sales jobs are salary based.

A successful sales person can sell almost anything once they have learned the product. They must be able to answer all questions about it and be able to show the benefits of what they are selling. A sales person must hone their negotiation and persuasion skills which can benefit other parts of their lives as well. A successful salesperson can ask for large salaries and higher commissions from prospective employers when job seeking once they have an excellent track record. A successful salesperson also follows up with their clients to make sure they’re happy with the product. They can also have the opportunity to seek referrals from satisfied clients to expand their client base.
