In March, the South by Southwest interactive festival generated a ton of information as well as buzz for what those in the IT space should be planning for.
  1. Privacy. Thanks to the launch of Google Buzz online privacy was on the radar. With access to your friends' online activity, users felt as though their privacy was violated and this topic of online identity and sharing was brought up at several panels throughout SXSW. But don’t peg this topic on Google Buzz alone, sites like Foursquare and Gowalla also contributed to this tech issue that will be a hot topic for while.
  2. Twitter @anywhere. Twitter CEO Evan Williams who introduced an @anywhere feature that will let users use Twitter without leaving other Web sites. Attendees were not that excited about the feature, probably because they were expecting a bigger announcement, but it’s still something to follow as the social networking space continues to evolve.
  3. Young and Casual Today’s IT leaders have ditched the suits. With these young forward thinking jean clad leaders be on the lookout for more outside the box yet genius IT solutions.
  4. News-Sharing Sites are Solid. While facebook and Twitter have definitely dominated when it comes to sharing information, news sharing sites like Digg, Reddit, and Mixx are certainly not out of the picture. 40 million users a month visit Digg to vote on their favorite news stories and interact with other community members. It’s that sense of community that will keep these sites going strong.
  5. Techies Can Party with the Best of Them. The techie stereotypes of the past of geeky and unsociable brains are no longer. Today, being technological savvy is cool and not reserved for misfits. While there were panels and announcements by day, 6th Street in Austin was certainly the place to be at night.
