What Can You Expect in Your Job Search Next Year?

Thanks to a robust economic recovery, the unemployment rate is just 4.6 percent heading into 2017. This is great news for people on a job search who want to find competitive positions that pay well. With the stock market going up, more companies might be willing to invest in more personnel to take profits even higher. U.S. News and World Report says job seekers should watch for these five trends in 2017.

1. More Online Applications

Expect to fill out more information through the internet in 2017. Your contemporary job search is already filled with online job boards and applications, but one of the major trends in 2017 includes gaining access to even more ways to submit job-related information online. Prepare for video interviews or phone conferencing done through online meeting software. You might even be able to serve up your references through online channels such as LinkedIn.

2. Faster Processing

One major complaint job seekers have about online applications is that filling them out is a lengthy, time-consuming process. Another aspect of the job search that candidates don't like is the waiting game. Employers must properly and thoroughly vet candidates, which takes time. In a highly competitive job market, both employers and candidates must balance the need for speed and details.

As more companies begin to use applicant screening software, the time it takes to process applications and review resumes should diminish. Candidates can also help by having everything ready to present to the hiring manager, recruiter or HR representative. That includes past employment information and references. Candidates who submit their information to the employer quickly are more likely to get prime interview spots. Coach your references so they are ready to answer questions about your work ethic and skills.

3. Candidates' Job Market

Because the economy is picking up steam, employers need workers. Get ready for aggressive recruiters seeking top talent in all industries. You should see higher pay, better benefits packages and more employee perks. Make sure you have great references, maintain a dynamite network and remain in a constant state of preparedness so you can pounce on great opportunities.

4. Passive Job Search

It's not uncommon for employers to engage in recruiting activities for positions they're not trying to fill right away. Have your LinkedIn profile up to date, and maintain a polished social media presence. You never know what companies may be vetting your personal brand through online channels for a possible position.

5. Better Interviews

Employers are wary about third-party review websites such as Glassdoor. Candidates also take to social media to express displeasure with job interviews. Moving forward, candidates should have better experiences with job interviews as firms learn to treat potential employees better throughout the entire vetting process.

Your job search should have many more positives than negatives in 2017. If you want your dream job, 2017 is the time to take advantage of the hiring market as businesses vie for top talent.
