Top Recruiting Challenges in 2024

Posted by in Human Resources

Year after year, new challenges for recruiters emerge. So, what are these challenges in 2024?

1. Rapid Advancement in Technology

While the modern era has done wonders for business, it presents a few challenges too. The most prominent of which for recruiting purposes is the resulting skill-gaps. New technology means new practices, and not every candidate is going to be up-to-speed. Finding candidates proficient in your latest tech can be difficult, throwing a wrench in your recruitment process.

Consider investing in upskilling programs. Consider implementing training in order to keep new or current candidates up to date with the latest technology. This will allow you to cast a wider net while searching for candidates and help with retainment too.

2. Preference for Remote Work:

The impacts of COVID-19 brought about changes in the world of work. One of the more notable effects is the preference for remote work. While social distancing seems like ancient history by now, employees seem to be sticking with working online. According to Forbes, 98% of employees surveyed “expressed the desire to work remotely, at least part of the time.” Yes, 98%. While this may not align with your company or organization’s goals take this into consideration when competing for talent.

Compromise and offer hybrid options for employees. This consists of bringing workers into the office 2-3 days a week and allowing them to work from home for the remainder. This is a fair compromise and can go a long way in recruiting talent.

3. Candidate Experience:

As difficult as the recruiting process can be on your end it can be equally difficult for the candidates. Whether it be uninteresting job postings, slow response time, or a poor interview experience, candidates are liable to get cold feet or find a new employer. If you are attracting ideal talent, it’s crucial to keep candidates invested in your company.

Enhance your hiring process. Let your company culture shine through into your hiring practice. Make the experience engaging for potential candidates, and allow them to see why your company or organization is the one for them.

4. Degree Requirements:

A college degree used to be a must-have for many employers. But is that still the case? Maybe not. In recent years, companies have been doing away with degree requirements in order to land talent. In fact, a survey done by Intelligent.com reports that 45% of companies plan on getting rid of bachelor’s degree requirements. There are many ways in which employees can gain training or experience which makes them just as efficient as college graduates.

Instead of looking exclusively for college graduates consider tapping into new pools of talent for your company or organization. One such talent pool is S.T.A.R.’s, or, skilled through alternative routes

The recruiting process can be difficult; every year presents a new challenge for employers. With that being said, knowing potential challenges and viable solutions can make a huge difference.
