Think Soda Isn't Bad For You? Here Are The Facts

Posted by in Healthcare

Ah, soda. As a nation, we are in love with the bubbly beverage. Of course, we all know that soda isn't good for us, but still we drink it like it was going out of style. I can remember when I was a kid, Coca-Cola came in small glass bottle. Although there was an option to buy bigger bottles, the largest single serving was about 16 oz. Then, 7-11 started carrying the Big Gulp. At the time, it was the largest cup of soda I had ever seen.

It wasn't long after that super sized sodas became common place. Today, you'll see Double Gulps and sodas that are too large to even fit in a cup holder. As the serving size increased, so did our consumption.

People in the healthcare industry have been warning patients about the dangers of soda for so long that it almost sounds cliché. However, it's important for us all to know how much damage we can do to ourselves with the sugary drink.

If you think it isn't that bad, here's an infographic to break it down:

As you can see, there are many different problems that drinking soda can cause. It's a huge part of our nation's battle on obesity and something that is often downplayed.

Did you know how bad soda was? Do you advise patients to cut down on sugary drinks? Why or why not?

I couldn't ever get the large "infographic" to download- maybe I'll try a different tactic. I WAS wondering about "diet" drinks. I know that those are bad too, but not in the way of calories, right?GOOD LUCK with the message, though!
