It's graduation time again, and for many grads it also means graduation gifts. When I was in high school, a great graduation gift was a car or money. These days, however, it seems that many teens are opting to have cosmetic surgery as a graduation present.
These new numbers show that more teens, surprisingly girls and boys, are getting surgery to change things about themselves that they don't like. For example, the number of breast surgeries has increased 200 percent. That includes both augmentations and reductions. Of course, only a small percentage of that number are teens. A good portion of the increase is due to people becoming more comfortable thinking about cosmetic surgery and even men who are willing to go under the knife to get rid of unwanted breast tissue.
However, last year, 250,000 teens had cosmetic surgery. The most common being a nose job. In second place was breast surgery, however it was more commonly done for boys who have enlarged breasts.
Here's an infographic that shows the breakdown:
It's hard to say if this trend will continue and if it's harmful for the teens. In any event, they are bound to enter college feeling more confident than they did in high school. What do you think?
