Times have been tough for most of us lately. With so many of us desperately looking for work or struggling to hold on to the job (or jobs) that we have, the fear of falling into poverty has become even more real over the past few years. I can't speak for everyone, but for me, it's been difficult just to get by, let alone to be able to do things I used to take for granted like buy holiday presents, afford a small vacation or even go out to dinner once a month.
I'm sure that I'm not the only one who has been feeling the pinch. There are so many formerly middle class people who have found their jobs disappearing, have lost their homes, had their credit ruined and have taken the tumble into the ranks of the working poor.
It's depressing, but there is some good news. According to a recent report from The Daily, personal income is on the rise. It seems that in 2011, personal income grew in almost every corner of the country. In larger metropolitan areas, the amount was larger than in smaller counties, however even the smallest towns in the country have seen at least a small bump in their overall incomes.
Take a look at the infographic:
Although it isn't clear if this income growth is simply a reflection of the already-wealthy people growing even more wealthy or if it is part of a larger trend that will mean more income for everyone, it certainly gives me hope that by next year, I might start to see the increase as well.
What do you think about these results? Have you seen your income increase or decrease over the past year? Please share your thoughts in the comments.
