On Semi To Spend $11M To Expand Idaho Fab
On Semiconductor Corp. will spend $11 million to add new semiconductor production equipment to its 8-inch fab in Pocatello, Idaho. The company plans to hire about 35 additional workers for the facility by the end of the year.
On Semi (Phoenix) did not disclose further details about the equipment being purchased. A spokesperson for On Semi said the expansion is more of a capacity increase as opposed to a technology upgrade. But as part of the expansion, there will be some space allocated to development of analog and discrete technology at the Pocatellofab for the first time, the spokesperson said.
"Expansion in Idaho is part of the company's overall strategy to maximize its in-house manufacturing capabilities to address increased customer demand," said Chuck Spinner, On Semi's vice president of eight-inch manufacturing operations at the Pocatello facility, in a statement.
On Semi's Pocatello fab, Fab 10, is the former manufacturing facility of AMI Semiconductor Inc., which was acquired by On Semi in 2008. The facility, which specializes in manufacturing ASICs and standard products for the automotive, medical, industrial and mil/aero markets, currently employs about 630 people, On Semi said.
