You just got your MBA and you're ready to take on the world with a high paying job, pay off your student loans and get that apartment you've had your eye on.
But unlike your techy friends whose science degrees prepare them to hit the ground running in tech firms, your sheepskin pales a bit by comparison.
The upside of your degree is that you can apply it to any field that involves business, administration or both. You generally have a wider choice of options when it comes to post-college careers. Many admin grads typically start with middle management positions, especially in the corporate sector.
Industrial and manufacturing companies can use your admin training, and even in these tough times, there are positions for those with degrees from A- and B-list schools. Merchandising and retail firms also seek out talented admin grads.
If you've always wanted to start a business of your own, you can team up with one or two other grads (perhaps one with a tech degree) and start the next Facebook or Google.
If you like the idea of working overseas, an MBA will serve you well--especially if you graduated near the top of your class. You can enter any one of the many management trainee programs offered by companies with offices in Europe or Asia. These internship programs last anywhere from one to five years, and they're often followed by a fast track to middle and upper management. In 2009, these jobs paid anywhere from $40,000 to $75,000.
