Motivation is made up of three key components: activation, intensity and perseverance. You begin your job search with gusto and put in effort to reach your goals, but it's the third step, the perseverance, that can get tough. When you're struggling to stay motivated, follow these seven steps to keep yourself on track and power through to the end.

1. Develop a Strategy

Before you even begin your job search, outline a plan that includes drafting a resume, gathering reputable recommendations and scouring job postings. Decide how many resumes you plan to send per day, and keep a daily to-do list that outlines your priorities.

2. Immerse Yourself in the Industry

To stay motivated when you're in a job search slump, stay abreast of current happenings in the industry. Read magazines, browse new articles and subscribe to blogs specific to your industry. Join a forum dedicated to the industry to connect with others who share your passion.

3. Find a Mentor

A mentor who has found success in your desired industry can help you stay motivated throughout your job search. Ask him to offer feedback on your resume. Check in with your mentor regularly to get advice on your strategy.

4. Establish Healthy Habits

It's easy to get off track and pick up bad habits when you're already stressed, but it's important to keep your focus. Maintain a healthy lifestyle to stay motivated in your daily job search. Eat healthy foods, establish a regular exercise routine, and limit your alcohol consumption.

5. Build Your Network

Expanding your professional network helps boost your confidence and increase your chances of landing that coveted position. Go to job fairs, or sign up for workshops in your area. Connect with industry professionals on LinkedIn or other social media sites. Talk about your career goals, and discuss potential job openings.

6. Give Yourself a Break

You're sure to burn out if you spend every waking hour immersed in the job search. Give yourself a few afternoons off every week to do something you enjoy or just relax. This helps to reenergize you and give you the motivation to propel forward in your efforts.

7. Focus on the End Goal

When you lose sight of end goal, stay motivated by reminding yourself of the desired outcome. Push through the tedious tasks and unpleasant encounters by focusing your sights on the success that comes when you reach ultimate goal.

The key to any successful job search is to stay motivated. While the process may feel tedious and exhausting the longer it goes, it's imperative that you push yourself forward and persevere. Count on these seven steps to stay motivated when your patience is wearing thin and you're feeling stressed by rejection or a lack of response.
