Hospitality recruiters, like so many others, are now exploiting the power of the web—be it e-job boards, emails, resume posting sites or business social media sites. If you’re looking for a job in hospitality, you’ll need to use these resources to connect and engage with recruiters.
For example hospitality recruiters are now starting to frequent sites like Hcareers to mine for qualified candidates. So it’s important to not only join these sites but to keep your resume and information constantly updated to reflect your career aspirations. Increasingly, recruiters won’t actually read a resume until it has passed through keyword search software to screen out candidates that don’t meet exacting criteria. So, as a job seeker, you must be keyword savvy when preparing and updating your resume on these sites.
What does keyword search software look for? Keywords of job titles, responsibilities and descriptions, computer knowledge, college degrees and college names, company names, professional organizations, awards, even personality traits. The software scans through thousands of resumes and pulls out those that best match the keywords. Those with the most keyword matches will actually be read by an HR screener. To ensure the most keyword “hits” and make your resume “keyword rich,” you should use synonyms of keywords in addition to the basic keywords.
On the other side of the coin, recruiters are beginning to post blogs on sites like YourHRGuy, and Employment Blawg, advising job seekers on a wide range of topics, including resume writing and interview tips.
