While it's no secret that I am a Google fangirl, sometimes I still wonder just how big is Google anyway? From their 3D renderings on the earth, the moon and mars, the massive amounts of email storage and of course their huge index of webpages, the size of their data is hard to wrap my brain around.
Fortunately, I found a great infographic that help to put it all into perspective. The search giant has an estimated index of 40 billion webpages and within the next year, the storage capacity of Google is expected to hit on exabyte, which is a billion gigabytes. A billion gigs of storage, wow, that certainly puts the 2 terabyte external hard drive I was thinking of buying to shame.
It is even more intersting to find out that not only does Google hire more employees than Apple or Microsoft, each employee is considerably more profitable to the company. According to the research, each employee generates an average of $403,084 per employee, compared to Apple's $342,274 per employee. Even though the Google founders, Sergey Brin and Larry Page only receive $1 a year in salary, they are worth an estimated $17.5 billion.
The statistics are amazing, and even with it all broken down, it is still hard to think about the volume of data that Google stores in any concrete way. Take a look and see what you think.
