Change is inevitable, and it's how you deal with these changes that determines your success in life. Whether you have a new boss or are taking on new responsibilities, there are ways to make the transition easier on yourself. Consider these 10 strategies to help you cope with change in a constructive way.

1. Anticipate Changes

Some people cope with change better when they see it coming. Keep abreast of trends in the industry and current news stories that could affect your organization. Stay up-to-date on the latest happenings around the office.

2. Accept the Inevitable

Some changes happen whether you want them to or not. If change is inevitable, don't fight it. Avoid procrastinating, and be as flexible as possible. Learn to adapt to make the transition easier.

3. Prepare for All Possibilities

If you're in the beginning stages of a change and you're still unsure of how it may play out, it's best to prepare yourself for all possible situations. Map out all the potential scenarios on paper, and then decide how to react to each.

4. Assess Your Feelings

To cope with change more effectively, it helps to be aware of your feelings. Ask yourself how you feel about the change, and try to determine why you feel that way. Be aware of any physical reactions you have when thinking about the change.

5. Cut Yourself Some Slack

Don't be too hard on yourself if you have a hard time coping with change. Give yourself a special reward from time to time, and consider it an achievement that you're still hanging in there.

6. Familiarize Yourself With Change

You can cope with change easier if you become more comfortable with the concept of change. Make small but purposeful changes, such as a different route to the office or a change of lunch spots.

7. Keep Some Traditions

When you're going through a big change in the office, don't overwhelm yourself with too much at once. Cling to your other traditions that make you feel comfortable, and surround yourself with familiar things and people.

8. Visualize the Future

Cope with change more effectively by visualizing yourself on the other side. Imagine that the change has occurred and that you're happy with the outcome.

9. Create a Support System

Don't internalize your feelings when you're struggling with change. Lean on a trusted friend, family member or colleague for support and encouragement.

10. Count Your Blessings

Keep a journal to record your thoughts and feelings as you cope with change. Every night, jot down a few things for which you are thankful.

Even if you typically don't react well to new situations, you can improve your techniques by using these 10 strategies to help you cope with change.
