Albert Einstein once said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” When it comes to getting your new construction job, it is critical that you start doing some things differently, so you can get the results you desire. All too often a job seeker will have the best intentions, but will fall back into self limiting habits that prevent him from taking the action he needs, to get the results he wants.
How it WorksA good analogy is a person who needs and wants to lose thirty pounds of excess body weight. He truly wants to lose the weight, and starts out in earnest by cutting back on portions of food at breakfast, lunch, dinner and the snacks he consumes throughout the day. In the beginning he is focused and motivated to follow through with his diet. He watches what and how much of what he eats. As he steps on the scale, to check his weight, he is pleased to see his pounds diminishing.
Back to Old HabitsHowever, after a few more weeks, that apple pie and ice cream in the grocery store sure looks good. And for goodness sake, he can’t refuse a piece of birthday cake from his nephew’s birthday party. Before you know it, his wanting to taste illegal foods start to override his desire to slim down and a few weeks later he is back to the body weight at which he started. He ends up being frustrated and angry. He is now despondent and ponders what he should do next.By giving into old habits, he has stopped taking the actions that would insure his successful weight loss.
You Must be ConsistentThe same goes for the job search you have started. The likelihood of you landing a new construction job is not good unless you continue to take the same action over and over again until you land the job.
Your strategy of doing networking, informational interviews, and the other ingredients for a successful job search formula must be followed in order to be offered a new job. By disciplining yourself to continue to do what it takes, the payoff will be that you land the job of your dreams.
