Decipher bad handwriting by asking Google. A new use for Google's auto-correct.
It's no secret that I am a big fan of Google and most of their products. I love the way that they are always coming up with a new way to make information accessible to just about anyone. But, I just ran across a novel way to use Google to make your job a little easier, and I just had to share.
One of the annoyances of most people who work in Administrative jobs is deciphering bad handwriting. Sometimes it is a note from a boss, a phone message or even a letter from a customer. When the handwriting is horrid and you feel like you are trying to decode the Dead Sea Scrolls as you struggle to figure out what the writer is trying to say, just try entering the text into the standard Google Search engine.
Google has a very intuitive auto-correct feature, and although I don't know how they do it, they always seem to know what I am trying to type – even when I am typing on my iPhone while walking down the sidewalk. If you put in the words you can make out, along with any letters in the missing word or words, there is a good chance that Google will suggest what it thinks you meant to type, and voila, there is the your illegible word.
This trick might not work all of the time, but if you give it a try, you'll be surprised at how often Google is right. There are lots of different ways to use Google products, and if you want to be entertained while learning some new trick, take a look at the Google Demo Slam competition. Demo Slam bills itself as a place “where amazing tech demonstrations battle for your enjoyment”. It is basically a competition where people can record a video demonstrating a new and entertaining use for a Google product. Each week, viewers vote on their favorites and a new champion is announced.
There are many ways to use technology to make your day run smoother, and I hope that this tip helped. Let me know what you think in the comments.
