CIOs Looking for Network Admin & Desktop Support Skills

If you're looking for an administrative job—or expect to keep the one you have—you should seriously consider brushing up on your network and computing skill sets. Enterprises global and local are investing in networking technologies as they cut staff or reduce staff by attrition. Simply put, companies are doing more work with less. And the more you know about computer and networking, the less chance you'll be standing in unemployment lines.

According to a Survey of IT Chiefs by Robert Half Technology, network administration skills are among the most sought after by CIOs. In 2010, network administrators will be in huge demand to ensure network traffic and the flow of vital information moves across enterprises with the utmost efficiency.

Another sought after talent will be Windows Administrators as Microsoft-based enterprises upgrade to Windows 7. Windows administration skills will be crucial as many enterprises will need to implement and maintain existing and upgraded systems.

Finally, Desktop Support will be one skill administrators will have to acquire and hone if they want to stay on top of the admin jobs food chain. Named as the 10th most sought-after skill this year by Global Knowledge’s 2010 Salary Survey, businesses will need desktop support personnel as organizations begin hiring and the economy improves.

I recently upgraded my computer system to Windows 7 and there are many times when I wish I'd had an administrative assistant to help with desktop support.
