It's important to know what makes your company stand out to a highly qualified candidate. This job interview question also helps you determine if the candidate took the time to research the company. A strong prospect who is genuinely interested in your company knows more than just the basics. Listen closely as candidates answer this question to determine if they genuinely want to work for you and are excited about the possibilities of growing with your organization.

"What Makes You a Good Fit for the Position?"

This job interview question gives candidates the opportunity to brag about their skills and accomplishments. Candidates who are confident and proud of their achievements answer this question with great gusto. These types of candidates generally take pride in their work as well and make great assets to any team.

"What Would You Improve About Your Last Job?"

Asking this job interview question gives you a bit of insight as to why the candidate is seeking a new position. If the candidate mentions limited growth opportunities, poor working conditions or feeling undervalued, make statements that let the candidate know your organization is different. For example, discuss the number of employees who get promoted each year, and talk about your organization's open-door policy that makes it easy for employees to voice their concerns.

"What Are Your Salary and Benefit Requirements?"

Salary and benefits are extremely important to job candidates, especially millennials. Ask this job interview question to find out exactly what the candidate is looking for and to determine if your company can meet his needs. Request a minimum salary, and find out if the candidate is willing to negotiate. Also, find out which benefits are must-haves for the candidate.

"How Soon Do You Want to Secure a Job?"

The candidate's answer to this job interview question can help you determine if he is actively seeking employment or ready to accept an offer. Most serious, professional candidates are honest about their current job situations, so if you ask this question, the candidate is likely to tell you if he's actively interviewing, entertaining multiple offers or planning to make a decision by the end of the week. After getting an answer, you can decide if you want to present an offer right away or interview a few more candidates.

Highly qualified job candidates know their value, so it's just as important for recruiters to win them over as it is for candidates to impress recruiters. Never make a candidate feel inferior during job interviews. Recognize their strengths, complement their accomplishments, and ask questions that help you both determine if your organization is the right fit to increase your chance of landing the best employee.
