You've been on the hunt for the perfect job for awhile now and nothing seems to be jumping out at you. Thinking that maybe you should head back to school and add a little something special to your resume. Something new, something unexpected, something that will grab peoples attention, something like... Golf?
Our friend, Candice Walker, over at baccalaureatedegree.org wrote an awesome piece about 15 College Degrees You Might Not Know Exist that got me thinking. What are some common careers that could add one of these degrees to make you stand out in your field? Lets look at 5 of her little known degrees and where they could be helpful.
Floral Arranging – Fresh flowers can make a house feel like home and an office feel warm and inviting. What else can create these feelings? How about paint, furniture and decor? Interior designers work with all these aspects everyday, adding the ability to choose and arrange the perfect flowers to accent a room can help you stand out.
Sports Ministry – You've completed your seminary studies, you have a wonderful congregation and are loving every moment you spend spreading God's word... but you still boot it out of church as fast as possible some Sundays so you don't miss the big game. Sports ministry could be a great add on for you to open doors to work outside the church.
Beer Brewing – Pots, pans, meat, veggies, special cuts and wine pairings are all important parts of being a good chef. You have to know your flavors and how to make them work together. What about your clients who aren't big wine fans? Who want to know how to compliment the perfect burger? Making your own signature brew could be your claim to fame in the super competitive cooking field.
Golf – You have a great job, in a great hotel, where you have perfected the art of hospitality and know everything about tourism, but at the end of your day you still make a mad dash for the links to get 9-holes in before it gets dark. So why not combine the two best things in your life? Add your travel and tourism degree to a golf degree and head off to the golf resort of your dreams.
- Medical Clowning – They say laughter is the best medicine, so why not cause some chuckles while you cure some ails? Juggling, slapstick, clowning, and improv could look great sliding across a hospital administrators desk on your resume. Feeling good physically and mentally go hand in hand, this degree could help you and your patients, I mean who doesn't like to make people laugh?
