If you’re interested in pursuing a career in the electric utilities industry, you might want to look into the many programs provided by American Electric Power (AEP).
As one of the nation's largest generators of electricity, AEP owns almost 38,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the U.S. AEP also owns the country’s largest electricity transmission system, which comprises a 39,000-mile network and more 765-kilovolt transmission lines than all other U.S. transmission systems combined. AEP's transmission system directly or indirectly serves the interconnected transmission system for 38 eastern and central U.S. states, as well as the transmission system that covers most of Texas.
As an avid supporter of ongoing education and learning, AEP offers a variety of classroom and on-the-job programs to help job applicants achieve their career goals in the electric utilities industry. A few examples:
Educational Assistance Program. You may qualify for up to $5,250 in educational assistance every year to cover 75% of registration fees, tuition and lab fees, plus 100% reimbursement for books. If you earn a college degree, AEP pays an extra 25% of all covered expenses.
DeVry Corporate Education Program. This gets you a 10% discount on tuition and a waiver of the application fee. DeVry offers undergraduate degrees in business, technology and management. Graduate programs are offered via the Keller Graduate School of Management.
ConSern Education Program. Finds scholarships and provides loans for you and your dependents to cover various education-related expenses.
Web-based Training. Helps boost your business and professional development skills, as well as technical and computer skills in such areas as communications, customer service, leadership, management, personal development, team building, Microsoft Office products and operating systems.
Leadership Development Activities. AEP partners with Ohio State University's Fisher College of Business to offer leadership and skill-building programs designed to help you succeed.
