5 Signs That Your Job Might Be Worth Staying At

Posted by in Career Advice

So, maybe you don't have your dream job, and maybe you only accepted your current job because you needed a way to pay the bills. It can be difficult to stay in a job that doesn't make you feel fulfilled, and you may feel like throwing in the towel, until you find your dream job, it make make sense to stay where you are.

Even if you are sure that there is something else you would enjoy doing more, making the decision to leave or stay can be tough. So, here are 5 signs that your current job may be worth staying at:

  • You supervisor encourages you – When your boss listens to your suggestions and actively encourages you to live up to your potential, it means that they actually care about your well-being and your happiness at work. Having an encouraging boss will make your day-to-day workplace environment much happier.

  • You have a good relationship with your co-workers – When you hate the people you work with, it can make your work environment miserable. Enjoying the people you work with is priceless and it can make it easier to stay in a job while you look for the right position.

  • You boss doesn't micromanage you – When your boss isn't constantly looking over your shoulder, it shows that they trust you to get the job done. When you feel like you have some freedom to arrange things in your workday, it can make your job more pleasant.

  • Your company sends you to training classes – When companies invest in training employees in new skills, they are making an investment in the employee themselves. This means that they believe that you are worth the investment and they want to help you grow in your profession. These are skills that you can take with you when you find your dream job, and they can be hard to get on your own.

  • Your supervisor recognizes your strengths – When your boss is supportive and recognizes your unique abilities it can make you feel better about yourself and your professional skills. It also can help you know which things you are really good at, and what you should highlight when you market yourself.

Even though I am not advocating settling for a job you don't enjoy, I am saying that until you find the job you really want, there are worse things than being stuck in a job with a supportive boss and great co-workers. If you are in this situation, it may be worth considering sticking it out in the meantime.
