5 Ways To Get Out Of Bed And Get On With Your Day

In the business world, punctuality is a sign of professionalism. The problem is that if you've been out of work for a while, you might have gotten into the habit of staying up late and sleeping late. It's normal, but when you have an interview or other appointments, getting up and out the door can be tough. When you're working all week, you get into the habit of getting up and getting ready quickly, however it only takes a week or two for your body to forget and make the process more difficult.

If you're having trouble getting out of bed and on with your day, here are 5 tips:

Get enough sleep - If you've become used to staying up late, it can be tough to get to bed at a decent hour. However, if you have an interview in the morning, you have to plan ahead in order to be ready to sleep at the earlier time. Resist the temptation to stay up until your usual bedtime and still get up early. You won't get enough sleep and getting up and out the door will be even more difficult because you are still tired.

Place your alarm clock away from your bed - The biggest reason for running late in the mornings is the alarm clock. It didn't go off or you slept through it. To prevent this, check your alarm settings before going to bed and even put the alarm clock in a place that isn't within an arms reach of your bed. If you have to get out of bed in order to turn it off, it's less likely that you will be able to sleep through it.

Use aromatherapy - In times past, people used smelling salts to revive someone from a faint, so why not use the same strategy to get yourself out of bed? Of course, you don't have to suffer through smelling salts, instead, use some uplifting essential oils like peppermint or citrus to get a boost in the morning.

Have everything ready the night before - Plan out your outfit and have everything laid out before you go to bed. This will prevent the last minute rush to find your keys, your bag or even your other shoe. Since you are probably out of practice, this will provide extra insurance that you won't leave the house without something you really need.

Relax before bed - When you have something to do in the morning, it can be hard to get a good night's sleep. For me, the anxiety about the interview or appointment can have me waking up several times during the night to look at the clock. By the time I finally get to sleep, it's almost time to wake up and by then, I am groggy and irritable. To prevent this, take some time to relax before bed. Read a chapter of a good book, listen to music or whatever makes you feel good. Try to clear your mind so that you can get the rest you need.

Planning ahead is the best way to ensure success. Make a plan for getting up and out the door and hopefully you'll find that your mornings are a lot less stressful.
